ENGL 313 - The Poetry of the English RenaissanceFC ARHU WINT 4 credits Passionate, argumentative, imaginative, and dazzling, the poetry of the English Renaissance was central to visualizing the self within a changing social order. This course focuses on the relationship of poetry and the visual in this era of civil and religious struggles – sometimes called the Baroque, sometimes the Early Modern. We will read a number of English poets, including Donne, Herbert, and Milton, in relationship with visual artists such as Rubens and Rembrandt. British, Pre-1700.
