ENGL 344 - Race, Gender, Uncle Tom’s CabinFC SSCI CD WADV 4 credits We explore Uncle Toms Cabin to ask: what contexts shaped the texts creation? In what forms did it circulate in its own time and beyond? How do we understand UTCs designated political and cultural work and that of the revisions from the Civil War to the present, particularly with respect to race, gender, and political movements? The course will include close textual analysis, historical work, sustained writing. American, Diversity, 1700-1900 or Post-1900 (not both). Prerequisites & Notes: Two 200-level English courses or consent of the instructor.
