SOCI 438 - Seminar: Coal, Communities and CultureFC SSCI 4 credits This seminar focuses on coal and its impact on people and the environment. Throughout the semester, we will investigate the human and environmental impact of each phase of the lifespan of coal, including extraction, processing, transport, and burning. We will also discuss alternatives to coal power. The course incorporates academic research, documentary films, guest speakers, and an examination of the ways in which Oberlin College and the surrounding community are working to reach carbon neutrality.
