HIST 239 - South Asia and the World

FC SSCI CD
4 credits
In this course we will study how South Asian society developed through constant interaction with other parts of the world in the last 5000 years. It was not just through commodities but through movements of people and ideas that various social practices in South Asia such as religion, urbanization, trade and state formation came to be shaped. We will discuss topics which are central to the historiography on world history such as empire formation, commerce, slavery and inequality.
