CMPL 291 - Topics & Forms: The OULIPO & ConstraintFC ARHU CD WINT 4 credits In this 200-level CRWR course, students will study the diverse tenets of and texts by members of the OULIPO (Ouvroir de littérature potentielle, or Workshop of Potential Literature), as well as engaging with critiques of the movement; they will also write original works using Oulipian and non-Oulipian constraints. All texts will be taught in English translation, though students with working knowledge of French and Arabic can also read the texts in the original languages. This course is cross-listed with CMPL.
Prerequisites & Notes: Although CRWR does not technically require any prerequisites for 200-level courses, this course is not suitable for first-semester first-year students. Students who wish to enroll should know that the reading load for this course will be heavier than that of some other CRWR courses; and that the work of the writers of the OULIPO tends toward the experimental and dense. Students with no prior writing or literature experience may prefer a different class. This course is cross-listed with CRWR 291
