BIOL 317 - Introduction to Microbiological TechniquesHC NSMA QFR 2 credits This course will serve as an introduction to techniques common to the field of microbiology. Laboratory exercises are designed to illustrate processes central to microbiology and to familiarize students with basic skills required for working with microorganisms. Topics will include microscopy, staining, aseptic technique, microbial growth and control of microbial growth, isolation and identification of unknown bacteria, and genetic engineering. Students will have the opportunity to design and carry out several mini-experiments to explore questions of their own choosing. Prerequisites & Notes: Pre-requisite: Bio 213
