ARBC 225 - SLP Intermediate Arabic 2

This is a Shared Languages Program course taught by Professor Sami Alkyam from Allegheny College and offered through Zoom videoconferencing technology. The course will begin on February 23, 2021 and end on May 20, 2021.* Intermediate Arabic 2 is a continuation of the intermediate study of the basic structural patterns of Modern Standard Arabic. Students acquire more vocabulary and more knowledge of the fundamental grammatical structures in order to attain a higher level of proficiency in communicating in Modern Standard Arabic along with Shami Arabic. We focus on principles of word formation, roots and patterns, and use of the dictionary to read more complex texts. Three 50-minute class meetings per week, plus an additional practicum hour (to be arranged) with an Arabic teaching fellow concentrating on speaking and interacting in Arabic. To facilitate enrollment at the host institution, students will need to fill out a registration form for the Shared Languages Program in addition to securing consent to register at Oberlin.
Prerequisites & Notes: Prerequisites: 3 semesters of Arabic or the equivalent. Students who complete the course successfully will earn Oberlin credit. *Because this Spring course overlaps with the Summer semester, those who enroll are responsible for ensuring that their Summer courses pose no scheduling conflicts.
