ENGL 329 - Louise Erdrich

FC ARHU CD WINT
4 credits
Among the most important American writers of her generation, Louise Erdrich is considered the leading figure of the “Second Wave” of the Native American Renaissance. A registered member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, Erdrich also has German-Catholic and French ancestry. Her work explores the complex interactions of these cultural identities on Reservations, in surrounding mixed-communities, and in urban settings, from the 19th to 21st centuries. In novels, poetry, non-fiction and children’s books, she explores the persistence and meaningfulness of Indiginous cultures and identities (among many other things) in contemporary American life. Her work is our focus.
