ARTS 030 - Introduction to Color & PrintmakingFC ARHU 4 credits This course introduces students to elements of color theory and print media through two-dimensional practices of drawing, painting, and printmaking. Taught in a sequence of two distinct modules, the first half of the semester will focus on drawing and painting to understand color through the lens of societal phenomena and use. During the second half of the semester students will continue to explore and translate color through various forms of traditional and contemporary printmaking. Students will consider the perception of color through personal narratives, historical references, and current issues such as environmental concerns, consumer culture, and the role of color in social movements. The class will examine myriad uses and meanings of color by studying a wide range of artists, cultures, and backgrounds. Along with color, an emphasis will be placed on conceptual reasoning and technical development as students investigate individual directions for their work. Prerequisites & Notes: This course counts towards the book studies concentration
