CAST 223 - Surviving America: Introduction to Native StudiesFC SSCI CD 4 credits This class offers an introduction to the field of Native Studies and its approaches to the study of indigenous nations in the United States and around the world. Native Studies seeks to understand indigenous peoples from a range of critical and disciplinary perspectives, and to undertake research to address the problems created by histories of settler colonialism and the mistreatment and misrepresentations of indigenous peoples. This course explores critical issues facing Native communities including legal and cultural identities, revitalization, environmental racism, transnationalism, indigenous feminisms, gender and sexuality, and indigenous sovereignty. This course is cross-listed with ENVS 223
