POLT 220 - International SecurityFC SSCI 4 credits In its Latin origins, security connoted safety and “freedom from care.” Yet today, the study of international security has become conflated with the study of war and militarism. How did we arrive here? Has the pursuit of security made the world more or less safe? Security for whom, and in whose name? This course examines the multiple meanings of security and challenges to its attainment (e.g., nuclear war, climate change, terrorism, land dispossession, and global poverty).
