POLT 261 - Ethnic Conflicts in Comparative PerspectiveFC SSCI CD 4 credits This course provides a framework for analyzing the causes of ethnic conflicts and is structured around two questions: (a) How do people come to hold specific identities and how do they become politically significant? and (b) How do these identities affect the processes of violence? Cases which will be considered span geographic areas (Southeast and South Asia, Africa, Europe, and North and South America), time period, and forms of violence (genocide, civil war, and riots).
