WRCM 230 - Fascism, Media, and Public Memory

“Is this Fascism yet?” Over the past few years, many Americans have found themselves asking this question with increasing frequency. This course will explore how the stories we tell about the Fascist past shape our understanding of the present and future. Emphasis will be placed on learning how to excavate the ideology embedded in films, radio programs, podcasts, tv shows, memes, and museum exhibitions by putting fictional and fictionalized works into dialogue with social scientific texts. No prior formal study of Fascist history required.
