HISP 100 - When World Literature “Discovered” Latin AmericaFC ARHU CD 4 credits How and when does a translated text become “world literature”? Who reads it, and how? What does it mean for authors to turn into reluctant global ambassadors of their cultures? We will read Latin American literature that circulates internationally, focusing on authors of the Boom (1960s-1970s), its “precursors,” and the post-Boom, such as Bolaño, Borges, Carpentier, Cortázar, García Márquez, Lispector, Oloixarac, Puig, and others. Taught in English.
This course is appropriate for new students.
