HIST 107 - Russian History I

An introductory survey of Russian history from the earliest times to the mid-19th century. Beginning with an overview of the Kievan Rus and the Mongol overlordship, we will explore the diverse influences of the steppe, Orthodox Christianity, and “the West” on the nature of the Muscovite and Imperial Russian state, the relationship between state and society, the formation of national and imperial identities, and dominant cultural values.
