JWST 291 - Anti-Semitism in European History and Literature
FCSSCICD4 credits This course examines the origins, functions, and expressions of European anti-Jewish thought from early Christianity to the postwar period. Beginning with ancient intercultural conflicts, it then explores early Christian religious competition, medieval Judeophobia, and modern racial anti-Semitism. Students are expected to gain an understanding of the structures and outcomes of specifically anti-Jewish prejudice as well as to make connections with the historical oppression of other minority groups.
