FCNSMAQFR4 credits A study of Newtonian mechanics and special relativity, focusing on conceptual understanding, problem solving, and laboratory work. Topics include point-particle dynamics, conservation principles, oscillation, systems of particles, rotation, time dilation, length contraction, and the relativity of simultaneity. This is the first course in a three-semester calculus-based introductory sequence. Students must register for both lecture and workshop. Recommended Preparation: concurrent or prior enrollment in MATH 134, as it is a prerequisite for PHYS 111.
