DANC 242 - Musical Theater Dance

In this intermediate-level experiential class students will work on both their dance technique and choreography skills for Musical Theater. Class will begin with a warm up that focuses on proper alignment, coordination, isolations, and clear initiation of movement. Floor exercises will increase students’ strength, flexibility and encourage full-out dancing, utilizing movement vocabulary from jazz, contemporary and ballet. Readings and viewings will be assigned to inform the process of choreographing numbers for Musical Theater. Certain class times will be used as choreography labs for students to work on their section of a large piece we will create for the end-of-semester showing.
