HISP 318 - Survey of Latin American Literature II - La ciudad

FC ARHU CD WINT
4 credits
This class will be focused on La ciudad. From Darío in Buenos Aires and París, and Martí in exile in New York, all the way to the Mexico City megalopolis of Amores perros, the city has been a fascinating sign for “modernity” in Latin America. We will also study Borges and Garro’s imaginary cities (and García Márquez’s rural anti-city, Macondo), Vallejo and Neruda, Cortázar’s Paris, the Mexico City of Carlos Fuentes, a Havana of fantasy and ruins, the Rio de Janeiro of the favelas, and the cities of the U.S.-Mexico border. Taught in Spanish.

Prerequisites: HISP 304.
This course is appropriate for new students based on placement exam.
