MUSY 226 - Music of the Middle Ages and RenaissanceFC CNDP DDHU 4 credits A survey of church and court music from the early Middle Ages to 1600. The course will consider the forging of Western musical traditions within the context of medieval liturgy and the ensuing growth of a variety of genres of music which richly expresses Romanesque otherworldliness, the ideals of courtly love, Gothic rationalism, the blossoming of the individual in the Renaissance, and the mystical fervor of the Counter Reformation.
Prerequisites: ESOL 130 (for students in ESOL sequence).
