APST 142 - Beginning ImprovisationHC CNDP 2 credits Intended for beginning improvisers or those with only limited experience in improvisation, this class will introduce techniques and concepts that cultivate the development of basic improvisational skills: melodic embellishment, outlining chords with melody, melodic transformation, developing vocabulary, strategies for ear training, and strengthening theoretical knowledge. This class is not genre-specific; examples of common practices in a variety of styles and genres will be studied. Open to all instrumentalists and vocalists in majors other than jazz composition and jazz performance.
