PSYC 930 - Building Resilience in the Face of Climate Change Through Effective Conflict ResolutionFC SSCI WADV 4 credits Climate change will create more frequent and intense natural disasters, resource shortages, and refugee migration; this will stress social systems and increase social conflict. Effective peacebuilding and conflict resolution strategies will be essential for creating social systems resilient enough to navigate these challenges. Drawing from the fields of social, cognitive, and political psychology, this course explores the psychological processes that lead to, exacerbate, and ameliorate conflict. It will also explore methods of de-escalating conflict. Students will explore these concepts in the context of a climate-driven UK-based conflict of their choosing. Taught in London. Prior application and acceptance to the Oberlin-in-London Program required. Field trip(s) required. Recommended Preparation: PSYC 118/POLT 119 or PSYC 218.
