AAST 217 - Unspoken Images: Complex Identities in Black FilmHC ARHU CD 2 credits This course will examine the cinematic presentation of divergent images of African American people. Through the examination of a select group of studio and independent films, the course analyzes the manner in which the film makers actively disrupt stereotypical ideas of Black life. Screening films that range in setting from the 1960s to the 2010s, the course engages with the evolution and complication of Black popular cultural identity in the post-civil rights era.
