HIST 322 - American Contact, 1492-1620FC SSCI 4 credits An exploration of first encounters between Natives and newcomers in eastern North America during the “Age of Discovery.” To the diverse peoples that took part in them, these meetings were mind-bending experiences animated by floating islands, cannibals, rabbit captains, gods, giants, icebergs, bears, and savages. To scholars studying them centuries later, they are windows to the values and interests of early modern societies and to a continent on the brink of hemispheric change.
