REEE 446 - Senior Seminar: (En)Countering Russian Colonialism

Exploring literature, film, history, and politics, we will learn about the colonial history and colonial present of the Russian Federation from those who have been, and are being, impacted by Russian colonialism, and have resisted, and are resisting it: within the Russian Federation, in Central Asia, and in Europe’s East. In doing so, we will explore how we can practice not reinforcing “westsplaining” modes of knowledge “about” those impacted by, and resisting, Russian colonialism, and instead learn with and from them. Opportunities to co-create the syllabus. Readings in Russian and English. Discussion primarily in Russian.
