CMPL 227 - Film and Comics in TranslationFC ARHU CD WINT 4 credits This course is an introduction to the theory and practice of translating comics and film. How do we translate language when images are involved? How do we “read” images, and what is the relationship between text and image in these mediums more broadly? We will discuss how comics translation and film subtitling cross between interpretation and literary translation and the various ways we can approach them. Students will have the opportunity to develop individual translation projects.
Prerequisites: four semesters of language. This course is appropriate for new students.
