FCCNDP6 credits Morning lessons feature continued tuning theory and application, with emphasis on stabilizing, tuning, and the skill of stretching octaves and tuning solid unisons. Students must tune a piano within a time frame of two hours using the Piano Technicians Guild tuning protocol during final exams. Additional topics include how to regulate grand piano action and more piano repairs, including action center service and introduction to prepping a piano for voicing. Students must pass a series of tests including tuning, regulation, center pinning, nomenclature, common repairs, and a written exam. Afternoon lessons feature pinblock manufacturing, assembly, adjustment, and replacement; down bearing adjustments; bridge cap replacement; soundboard repairs and soundboard refinishing; introduction to using lacquer and spraying case parts and soundboards; and gilding the plate.
