ENGL 105 - Literature and EnvironmentalismFC ARHU CD 4 credits How do literary texts expand our understanding of the relationship between humans and the non-human world? How have writers shaped environmental thinking, and how has that thinking transformed over time? What is the role of ecocriticism (the study of literature and ecologies) in conversations about climate change, environmental justice, and the changing nature of nature? In this course, we will engage with a wide variety of literary forms and genres in order to begin grappling with these questions together. Specific areas of focus will include “Romantic Environmentalisms,” “Troubling the Wilderness,” “Race in/and the Outdoors,” “Queer Ecologies,” and “Eco-Grief.”
Sustainability This course is appropriate for new students.
