TECH 110 - Audio Harvest: Cultivating Sustainability in Food and ArtFC CNDP 4 credits From bone flutes to drums made from animal hide, some of the earliest musical instruments were crafted from food waste. Audio Harvest: Cultivating Sustainability in Food and Art, seeks to reimagine these early roots of lutherie (instrument making) for contemporary times. We will forage, reclaim, cook, and cultivate raw materials to create sound art completely from scratch. We will collect and process fibers–food waste, textiles, and more–from our own lives and local communities for use in the development of new musical artifacts including new instruments, musical scores, and other contemporary musical technologies. And, we will use our creative processes to examine the social and environmental implications as well as the physical characteristics and affordances of the musical artifacts we create.
