RELG 151 - Religion in AmericaFC ARHU CD 4 credits This course offers an introduction to the study of religion, focusing on its dynamism, complexity, public significance, and ongoing vitality in the lands that have become the United States. Through engagement with historical documents and secondary literature, we will explore how Protestant Christianity has shaped the structures of American society and how members of diverse religious communities - including Protestants as well as indigenous Americans, African-descended peoples, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and others - have adapted their beliefs and practices to changing American environments.
This course is appropriate for new students.
