ARST 174 - Intro Aesthetics of Hip Hop: Graffiti from Boxcar to BaselFC ARHU CD 4 credits An exploration of Graffiti as an art form, its origins in Hip Hop culture, and an introduction to techniques of the genre, including various types of lettering, arrows, shadows, effects, and combinations. Students acquire a basic understanding of relevant historical elements of Hip Hop to provide context, frame contemporary approaches and equivalents, and deconstruct conceptual evolutions inspired by both technology and the genre’s acceptance by the wider art discourse. Pioneers of the medium will be presented and discussed. Artworks may contain conventional and non-conventional forms and topics, and utilize a variety of materials, analog and digital. Potential use of hazardous materials/safety training required.
