WRCM 340 - Rhetorical Theory and MethodsFC ARHU WADV 4 credits This course offers a series of engagements with both historical and contemporary concepts and practices of rhetoric, pulling from the Ancient Greek rhetorical tradition, select Medieval studies of rhetoric, as well as more recent, experimental, trans-disciplinary rhetorics. Course design is animated in part by the spirit of the Trivium, which was a key component of a classical education and sought to cultivate in students certain capacities-thinking, speaking, and writing-that are necessary to become informed and productive citizens. Through the analysis and discussion of a diverse body of research (diverse in scope, style, purpose, and historical context), students will be encouraged not only to learn about the field of rhetoric, but also to apply relevant concepts and methods to their own research, to their own areas of interest, and to their own lives.
Prerequisites: Previous coursework in Writing and Communication.
