POLT 324 - Political Memoirs

FC SSCI WADV
4 credits
Looking through the lens of individual actors we learn about the human considerations of political action by those who were at critical places during important political moments. We can also step back to learn the political and economic contexts of the events about which the authors write. We will read excerpts or entire memoirs from: Nelson Mandela and the anti-apartheid movement, Hilary Clinton and the role of the U.S. State Department in U.S. foreign affairs; Amaryllis Fox and the undercover life of a twenty-two-year-old woman in the CIA following the attacks of 9/11; Samantha Power and the rise of an Irish immigrant to become a journalist, Harvard Professor, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and the Director of the United States Agency for International Aid (USAID).
