CMPL 352 - Translation Workshop: Reviewing Translations

FC ARHU CD WADV
4 credits
Literary translators are first and foremost literary critics. In this workshop students will read translations of prose and poetry, analyze and interpret them, and then write about them, honing their skills as informed reviewers of translated literature. In the first half of the semester, students will read translations and translation reviews to develop a critical framework for reviewing translations. In the second half, students will choose a literary work to read, research, and review; will workshop several drafts of their review; and will produce a polished essay ready to be submitted for publication.

Prerequisites: One college literature course.
