BIOL 345 - Invertebrate BiologyFC NSMA QFR 4 credits The vast majority of animals on earth are invertebrates, and they are critical components of all ecosystems. In addition to contributing to ecosystem function, many invertebrates strongly affect human society through their roles in agriculture and disease. Using interactive lectures, discussions, and readings from the primary literature we will explore the evolutionary history, anatomy and physiology, behavior, and ecological roles of a variety of invertebrates. The laboratory will require field trips, and will include observing, collecting, and identifying invertebrates. Small groups of students will also plan, execute, and report on a research project using lab-grown invertebrates during the first half of the semester.
Prerequisites: BIOL 200. Undergraduate Research Intensive
