FYSP 030 - Writing Life: Exploring Identity and PlaceFC ARHU WINT 4 credits In this first-year, writing-intensive seminar, students will embark on a hyperlocal, literary voyage, exploring the connections between personal identity, the places we inhabit, and the people who shape our understanding of both. While we are “writing home,” we will delve into various writing modes, including poetry, personal & lyrical essays, linguistic autobiographies, spatial narratives, ethnographies, and academic writing. Student writing will then be collected into yet another rhetorical mode, the digital portfolios. Through readings, discussions, and engagement with campus and town resources, students will critically examine the role of writing in shaping their sense of self and community. This seminar offers an opportunity for first-year students to explore identity, place, and the writing life, fostering critical thinking and effective communication within the rich context of Oberlin College and its surrounding community.
