GSFS 320 - Scripting the Body: Performative Methods in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist StudiesFC ARHU 4 credits In this course, students will engage in the scholarly study of gender and sexuality - and their intersections with race, class, ability, age and other aspects of identity and sociality - through the performance of materials gathered from everyday life. Students will learn techniques for collecting naturally occurring conversations and conducting oral history interviews which are then adapted for individual and group performances. Students will develop skills for feminist analysis using qualitative research methods (e.g., in-depth interviews, observations, close reading of texts, etc.) including performance methodologies that use the process of performance making as a mode of scholarly inquiry. This course requires a strong commitment to out-of-class preparation and rehearsal, to embodied practice and to public presentation and performance. Open to all students; first-time performers are welcome and encouraged to enroll. Priority given to GSFS majors/minors.
Prerequisites: One gateway course in GSFS.
