MUTH 267PT - Music and the BodyFC CNDP PT 4 credits What does it mean to “feel the music”? How do performers’ gestures influence how we listen? How do music creators make us want to get up and dance? In this course, we will develop a set of analytical and interpretive tools that help us account for the bodily involvements of performers, composers, listeners, and other participants in music-making practices. We will study repertoire from a range of styles and genres that engage perspectives on gesture, disability studies, dance, instrumental spaces, and embodied cognition. Midterm and final project options may include analytical writing, road mapping, performing, and other creative work. (This course will fill the Post-Tonal (PT) Requirement.)
Prerequisites: MUTH 132 Music Theory II.
