ENVS 252 - Global Peasant AgricultureFC ARHU CD 4 credits This course encompasses a critical analysis of historical injustices and histories of recovery and renewal. We will learn about peasant agricultural resilience and the vision of self-reliance among pre- Columbian civilizations and African and African American communities. African agrarian roots have survived through the memory and deep enduring connectedness to the land. However, indigenous systems of agriculture have been colonized, appropriated, and exploited, making agriculture a predominantly white narrative and space. We will examine the ways indigenous peoples have leveraged their understandings of landscape to resist colonialism and deconstruct settler- imposed systems that continue to oppress Black, brown, and indigenous peoples.
Community-Based Learning Sustainability This course is appropriate for new students.
