FYSP 065 - Palestine: Art, Memory, ExileFC ARHU CD WINT 4 credits In what ways can art help us remember the past and imagine a future? How can art embody communal resilience? Can the creation of art be a form of resistance and reclamation? This First-Year Seminar seeks to answer these questions through an interdisciplinary study of Palestinian art, literature, and film from 1948 to the present. We will examine the work of visual artists and filmmakers alongside poetry, short stories, and fiction in order to better understand Palestinian history, culture, and the struggle for self-determination. No prior study of art history or Palestine necessary.
