ARTH 237 - Palestinian Art and Visual CultureFC ARHU CD 4 credits This course examines Palestinian art and visual culture from 1948 to the present. Approaching our material thematically, we will study how visual artists and filmmakers living in historic Palestine and its diasporas have addressed identity, exile, communal resiliency, and resistance for the last 75 years. We will utilize postcolonial frameworks to historically ground our analysis of the past as well as to consider potential futures. Film screenings and class trips required.
Prerequisites: A 100-level art history course or the permission of the instructor.
