ENVS 352 - Decolonizing Global AgriculturesFC ARHU CD 4 credits
This course centers the decolonization of agricultural knowledge. Reaching beyond the influence of colonialism and the market economy, this course privileges the agricultural knowledge systems and voices of historically marginalized indigenous farming communities, the quest for equitable alternative agricultural practices, the value of traditional forms of development, and the importance of place-based knowledge. This course also examines the value and uses of regenerative agriculture and indigenous seeds and crops preserved and sustained for generations. Using post-colonial and decolonial approaches, we will learn about the contributions indigenous thinkers have made to farming systems and sustainable development.
