ARST 253 - Intermediate Performance + VideoFC ARHU 4 credits Since the beginning of video art, artists have used present-day technology to perform as themselves and under various guises. During this intermediate course, we will critically engage with art-making at the intersection of both mediums while looking at the influence of past and present technology on an artist’s expression and output. Through screenings, readings, discussions, research-based assignments, and field trips, participants will gain exposure to performance and time-based contemporary art practices. Over the semester, we will experiment and play as a group while working towards technical, conceptual, and critical proficiencies that support participants’ individual projects.
Prerequisites: ARST 151 or 158, or one class in CINE or TECH.
