EXCO 355 - Introduction to Food Science


2 credits
This ExCo has the mission of presenting food science and its many applications in an interactive and fun way! Over the course, we will talk about the scientific concepts in food and food preparations, such as the neuroscience concept of taste and industry techniques used to scale up production. In addition to learning about science, students will also gain knowledge about careers and opportunities in the various food science fields and the usefulness and future trends of the food industry in the modern world. Toward the end of the course, participants will be part of a product development competition in which they will learn the various processes of developing a food product, from the choice of ingredients to marketing. Classes may include hands-on activities, food tasting, Kahoot games, or guest speakers. No previous scientific or cooking knowledge is required, just the desire to learn something new about food!
