EXCO 675 - Irish TunesCo

This course will be an introduction to traditional Irish music. We will cover all the different types of Irish tunes and learn about their origins. The culture and history of Irish music will also be discussed at each class. We will discuss the traditional Irish instruments and their histories and the people who play them. We will also have some special Irish musician guests throughout the semester. The objective of the course is to engage with Irish music in whatever capacity you feel comfortable with- just listening, singing along, or playing tunes on an instrument, so there is really no prior background required, our goal is to make this music as accessible as possible. The meeting time will be decided based around the schedules of those interested.
