EXCO 541 - Beginning Swing Dance 1 credit Swing dance is a category of partner dance to swing jazz music which was developed in Harlem by Black Americans in the 1920’s through 1940’s and is still around today! The objective of this class is to give students experience with and basic knowledge of the fundamental dances of swing (East-coast, Lindy Hop, and Charleston), to teach good social dancing skills, and to introduce some basic understanding of musicality. Students will have the opportunity to learn as both a lead and follow. By the end of the class students should be confident trying out the moves at a social dance, and able to choreograph their own pieces!
