EXCO 203 - Anarchist Art History Co 2 credits This class will examine the connection between artists and radical anarchist movements throughout history, and the ways that anarchist ideology informs the form, content, and function of art. We will address the question of what makes art radical and revolutionary, and the utopian qualities ascribed to artists and art-making. We will critically examine the perspectives of various anarchist artists and activists of art, with a focus on a development of our own perspectives and relationship to art. This course aims to not examine art history in a historical vacuum, but to explore how the past can inform the activism and art of the present.
