EXCO 322 - Practical AI: Real-life Wizardry

The release of ChatGPT in 2022 ushered in a new and revolutionary era in artificial intelligence. The constant release of new tools and capabilities, such as AI-powered writing assistants, image generators, and code completion tools, has already begun affecting various aspects of our lives at a pace that challenges our ability to adapt. This course offers a hands-on exploration of some of the latest AI models, services, and approaches that have emerged so far. We will learn how to harness the power of generative AI across a wide range of practical uses, such as data analysis, creative projects, accessibility enhancement, and workflow automation. Through a critical examination of AI’s capabilities, limitations, and ethical implications, we will gain the experience necessary for becoming responsible AI users and effective “humans in the loop” in this new era of technological change. Whether you’re a beginner or already have some experience using AI apps and tools, this course will equip you with the skills and background to navigate the opportunities and the challenges that lie ahead as AI reshapes our society in untold and important ways.
