EXCO 624 - Ukulele ExCo

1 credit
This class is a basic introduction to the ukulele, exploring the range and sound of this truly fantastic and underrated little instrument from its Hawaiian roots to its place in pop music. Students will learn their way around the uke - from progressions, licks, vamps, and turnarounds to completed songs - through lectures, demonstration, individual instruction, and listening to greats like Jake Shimabukuro, Taimane Gardner, and Eddie Kamae, among others. Students will play with and for one another in class and begin to develop a repertoire for ukulele, which is a great soloistic instrument but can also accompany. The key is, the ukulele is fun, and accessible; it has a great sound, but it’s not hard to sound good with the right approach.
