EXCO 630 - Ludomusicology

This ExCo is all about video game music - how it has evolved, how we study it, and how it relates to broader pop culture movements (as well as why we like listening to it!). We’ll look at game music on its own, how it functions in the context of the game, and how it connects to other movements in music history (particularly film music, Romanticism, Modernism, and pop/rock music). There will be a great deal of game analysis on its own as well, especially around aesthetics, gameplay, and character designs. The games studied in the course will be varied in genre and as diverse as possible, with opportunities to explore your personal favorite game / genre / compositional style in depth!
